Chocolate Indulgences

The sweet aroma of chocolate filled the air on the afternoon of Wednesday, February 18 at the library. Eleven teens and pre-teens gathered to melt, pour, and mold chocolate to indulge their chocolate fantasies. For many of us, it was our first time making chocolate. The molding part was easy while the waiting for it to harden was tough. We had a few explosions of chocolate from some ornery bottles, covering one teen with chocolate, but how could he complain. Everyone left with a baggie of their unique creations. Delish!

Update: Wednesday's Board Meeting 1/21

We had a great showing of support last night from the community. About 150 people came together in an outpouring of love for the Sterling Library. A diverse group of people -- students from elementary, middle, and high school, adults and seniors -- stood up and shared stories about how the library is an invaluable part of their lives. We stood strong last night to fight to keep this landmark of the Sterling Park community open. The Library Board expressed their wish to keep the Sterling Library open. So, it seems like we're safe for the time being. Special thanks to Charlotte, Andy, and Anthony who came out Wednesday night and were brave enough to speak up. Please forgive me if I forgot to mention anyone else.

However, the fight isn't over. Please communicate to the Board of Supervisors now. Click to find their contact information. Send them letters or emails to let them know how important the entire library system is to you.

The meeting started with a call for everyone to come to the Wednesday meeting to show support for the library. Then we discussed upcoming programs.

We worked on activity stations in groups for the Spring Fest in April.

We planned for summer reading 2009.

- talent show (Ashburn Library is in the process of doing one. I am contacting the teen librarian there to find out what kind of response they have gotten thus far. I'll post what she responds and then we can reach a consensus about whether to go ahead with the talent show or not).
- movies
- Saturday game day
- Survivor for Books

Please let me know if you have further ideas about summer reading or the spring fest.
